Introducing the EFL Inspector: Analyze Your Plan vs the Best Rates in the Market

Shopping for electricity in Texas has become a confusing search where companies trick you with misleading "as low as" rates. You find a plan that looks great, but unless you fully understand the Electricity Facts Label (EFL)—the most important document in the contract—you might be walking into a trap. Even if the EFL clearly lists the fee charges and transparently discloses the gimmicks, you need to understand how difficult it is to achieve this credit every single month. These plans are designed to work against you, even if they look feasible on paper.

Today, Clear Energy Facts is proud to announce a new tool that is a game-changer for Texas shoppers. We call it the EFL Inspector.

Who Needs This Tool?

We built this for everyone, but it is especially powerful for three types of shoppers:

  • The "AI & Web Search" Shopper: Are you using general comparison websites or asking tools like ChatGPT or Google Gemini to "find the cheapest electricity rates"? They might show you an attractive price, but are you sure that 9 cents per kWh is a True Fixed plan? Often, these tools just show the lowest number without analyzing the risk. Use the EFL Inspector to fact-check that recommendation before you sign.
  • The "Broker" Customer: Do you pay a membership fee for a service (like Energy Ogre) to shop for you? Use this tool to audit them. Are they actually putting you in the cheapest plan with a highly-rated company? Or are you losing money on the rate plus the money you pay for the membership? It takes seconds to double-check their work.
  • The "Power to Choose" Shopper: If you sort by "Cheapest Rate" on Power to Choose, are you sure you picked a True Fixed plan? Often, the cheapest displayed rates are actually plans that hide certain fixed fees or aren't true fixed plans at all, especially the short-term ones. The EFL Inspector looks past the price tag to verify if the plan is actually safe.

How It Works

We made it incredibly simple to use, even on your phone:

  1. Upload: Take a screenshot or upload the PDF of any plan (whether it’s from Power to Choose, a broker, or a provider’s website).
  2. Analyze: The tool scans the document, identifying hidden tiers and contract terms.
  3. Compare: See your savings estimation instantly.

What It Does

The EFL Inspector is an AI-powered analysis tool designed to answer one question: "Is this plan actually good?"
When you find a plan you like, simply feed the EFL to our tool. It instantaneously analyzes the fine print to give you three critical pieces of information:

  • Plan Categorization: It instantly identifies the plan structure. It tells you if it is a safe True Fixed rate, a risky Gimmick plan (Bill Credits), a Time of Use plan (Free Nights/Weekends), or a Variable rate.

  • Fairness Check: It evaluates the rate against the current market. It tells you immediately if the price is fair or if you are being overcharged.

  • If you upload a "Bill Credit" (Gimmick) Plan: We do not compare these side-by-side with market rates. Why? Because gimmick plans are designed to look artificially cheap in specific usage windows, making a direct comparison misleading. Instead, we show you a table of the Best True Fixed Rates available and provide a Bill Estimation based on those safe plans. This gives you a clear, honest baseline of what your bill should be, without the noise of deceptive gimmick math.

  • If you upload a "True Fixed": Since these plans rely on stable pricing, we perform a direct side-by-side comparison. We calculate the exact difference between your current rate and the market's best rate, showing you precisely how many dollars per year you could save by switching. We also apply this comparison to other plan types (like Free Nights or Free Weekends), as long as they pass our transparency and validation checks.

Why We Built This

Unfortunately, the Texas electricity market is flooded with gimmick plans that are heavily advertised to look cheap but end up costing you more.
This tool will turn the tables and give the advantage back to the customer. Even a small improvement in your rate—for example, just 1 cent per kWh—can lead to hundreds of dollars in savings over the course of a year.

The EFL Inspector does the math for you, so you never have to guess again.
