Review of Atlantex Power Luminous Free Weekends plan. Compare free-weekend savings vs competitive fixed-rate plans based on real usage
Atlantex Power’s Free Weekends plan is one of the cheapest free weekend plans on the market. Saving money with a free weekend plan is not easy. However, this plan may give you one of the best chances to beat competitive fixed-rate plans.
The free window for this plan starts at 10:00 PM on Friday and ends at 9:00 AM on Monday. The plan has no base charge, which is a major advantage. We usually prefer plans that start earlier on Friday, but this one partly makes up for that by giving you a few extra free hours on Monday morning.
Luminous Weekend Pros:
Lower weekday energy rates than most free weekend plans on the market
No base charge, which makes it a good fit for small apartments and low-usage homes
Luminous Weekend Cons:
The free weekend period is not completely free: While the energy charge is waived during the free window, TDU delivery charges, usually around 5 to 6¢/kWh, still apply. That said, this is part of the tradeoff. Atlantex makes up for it by offering a more competitive weekday rate than many other free weekend plans.
Luminous Weekend vs. a True Fixed Plan: Can It Beat It?
This will be challenging. Still, this plan is one of the best of its kind. In the end, everything depends on your ability to shift enough electricity into the free window. The key question is: how much can you realistically move?
Comparison vs. Top Fixed Plans
The next comparison evaluates the latest pricing of this plan against the top 20 competitive fixed-rate plans in the market, including plans currently available on Power to Choose. This point is important: we are not comparing it against expensive or weak fixed-rate plans just to make it look better. We are comparing it against real, competitive market rates.

Luminous Night vs Top 20 Truly Fixed Plan
This chart is dynamic, and you can change the usage filter in the top-right corner. For the filter selection, use 500 kWh or 1,000 kWh if you live in an apartment. Use 1,000 kWh and 2,000 kWh for medium to large houses, and 2,000 kWh to 3,000 kWh for very large houses.
This graph above shows how competitive the free weekend plan really is:
The blue shaded area shows where true fixed-rate plans are still cheaper than the free weekend plan. For this plan, that threshold is around 40%. To put that into perspective, a normal day represents about 14% to 15% of your weekly electricity usage, since there are 7 days in a week. That means if you want this plan to work, you usually need to shift at least about 20% of your normal weekday usage into the weekend.
With the Atlantex Power plan, that goal is still realistic because the free window also includes extra hours on Friday night and Monday morning, not just Saturday and Sunday. If you keep your air conditioning and heating under control during the weekday, and shift cooking, laundry, and EV charging into those free hours, this target is achievable. If you live in a small apartment, you can switch the filter to 500 kWh and see that the amount of usage you need to shift is even lower.
Luminous Weekend Plan Bill Estimation
To estimate your bill and compare it against the top 20 fixed plans across different TDUs, use the table below. Select your TDU and usage level (500 / 1,000 / 2,000 / 3,000 kWh).
Because this plan still includes TDU delivery charges during the free hours window, your final bill depends heavily on your total monthly usage.
As a general guideline:
Use 500–1,000 kWh for apartments
Use 1,000–2,000 kWh for medium to large homes
Use 2,000–3,000 kWh for very large homes

Luminous weekends vs Other Free Night Plans
Many companies have started offering Free Weekend plans because, in practice, these are some of the hardest plans to make work in the customer’s favor. There are too many variables, and the most important one is your actual usage pattern, especially how much electricity your HVAC uses during the weekday. The exact start and end times of the free window also matter a lot. If you want to review the full list of these plans, you can check it here: Best Free Weekends Plans in Texas.
