Victoria Housing & Heating Facts

Victoria is one of the most humid cities in Texas and has also appeared in national top-10 humidity rankings. Its location just inland from the Gulf helps keep moisture levels high for much of the year. In Victoria, heat and humidity are the main drivers of A/C usage, so expect larger electricity bills during the hottest months, especially in summer.
The table below gives you an estimated bill based on your housing type and heating setup, which is especially useful for understanding winter bills as well.

Origin of the Plans on This List in Victoria

Clear Energy Facts collects plan information in three ways:

1. Provider Websites
If a plan has the tag “Company Website”, it means the plan was found directly on the provider’s own website. You can access these plans through our link, or you can go directly to the company’s website yourself.
One important note: try not to use the sponsored links that appear on Google when shopping for electricity. Some providers show different rates depending on how you reached their site, including promo links, special landing pages, or paid ads.
For more information, see this article: Texas Electricity Promo Codes and Secret URLs

2. Power to Choose (PTC)
If a plan has the tag “PTC”, it means the plan is listed on Power to Choose, the official Texas electricity shopping website.
Even though you can access these plans directly on Power to Choose, we recommend using our link because we review, filter, and categorize them first. Many plans on Power to Choose are not truly fixed-rate plans, even if they may look attractive at first.
So if we tag a plan on this page as a fixed-rate plan, it means we have already reviewed it and confirmed that it is not a time-of-use plan, a bill credit plan, or another gimmick plan type.

3. Exclusive Plans
If a plan has the tag “Exclusive”, it means Clear Energy Facts has a direct partnership with the provider and can offer a competitive rate that may not be widely available on other shopping platforms.
These plans are still reviewed the same way as the others, and when we include them on our list, it is because we believe they are competitive options for shoppers in Victoria.

How Switching Electricity Plans Works in Victoria: The 14-Day Rule

This is one of the most misunderstood parts of shopping for electricity in Victoria and across Texas. Many people think they have to wait until the last day of their contract to switch, but that is not true. If you wait too long, you could end up rolling onto a high month-to-month rate.

In Texas, you can switch to a new electricity provider up to 14 days before your current contract ends without paying an early termination fee. That means you do not have to wait until the exact expiration date. As long as your new plan starts within that 14-day window, your current provider cannot charge you a penalty for leaving early.

Even though the penalty-free window is 14 days, you can usually shop much earlier than that. Many providers let you lock in a new rate 30 to 60 days in advance, and sometimes even earlier. When you enroll, you can usually choose a future start date so the new plan begins when your current contract ends.

In most cases, the switch is handled for you. When you sign up with a new provider, they coordinate the change through the Texas grid system, so you do not have to cancel your old service separately under the normal switching process.

There is no interruption in power, and there should not be any overlap in service. Your old provider bills you through the switch date, and the new provider takes over after that. Most switches happen on the next meter read date, but in many cases you can also request a specific switch date to line up with your contract end date.
