How We Rate Companies

PUCT Rating: This is the official scorecard published by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT).
Plan & Rates: We evaluate electricity rates across each company's portfolio. Lower average rates per term lead to higher scores. We also slightly reward companies offering a balanced portfolio. However, we did not include any score for plans that are difficult to understand or require special equipment such as intelligent thermostats, EV data devices, seasonal rates, or “highest consumption day” rewards.
Cancellation Fees: We compare the cancellation fee of each plan against others and normalize the data. Lower cancellation fees per contract term result in better scores.
CEF Score: The overall rating is the average of these ratings.
