True Power Review and Ratings

Last updated:

Read our True Power Review and Ratings. True Power currently holds a Clear Energy Facts Score of 2.4 out of 5, ranking #38 out of 42. We evaluate plan quality, pricing transparency, and customer service.

True Power is an electricity provider serving the Texas market. The company focuses on offering straightforward fixed-rate electricity plans, including options with 100% renewable energy

True Power: What we like

  1. Positive trend in Google reviews (2025): Recent Google reviews show a clear improvement in customer sentiment. Negative reviews related to poor customer service appear to be largely in the past, with the majority of reviews over the last year being positive. Common feedback highlights short wait times and helpful, responsive customer service agents.
  2. Competitive pricing: Over the past month, True Power has been consistently positioned as one of the cheapest options on Power to Choose

True Power: What we don’t like

  1. Risk of account being transferred: Some customers have reported signing up with True Power and later finding their service moved to a different provider, and although complaints had previously declined, reports related to this issue have increased again over the past month, making it an important consideration for customers who value long-term clarity and consistency.
  2. One of the highest cancellation fees in the market: True Power applies a $300 early termination fee regardless of contract length. This means customers pay the same penalty whether they are on a 3-month plan or a 36-month plan, which we consider unusually harsh compared to most competitors that scale the fee based on term length.
  3. Best rates often limited to Power to Choose: True Power sometimes offers deeply discounted rates on the Power to Choose marketplace, but these same rates are rarely available on their regular website when customers sign up directly. As a result, customers who do not use Power to Choose may miss the lowest-priced offers, raising transparency concerns around rate availability.
  4. Autopay limitations acknowledged by the company: A recurring customer complaint is that AutoPay cannot be fully set up directly through the customer portal. Instead, customers must call a customer service agent to enroll in AutoPay, which is less convenient than the self-service options offered by most Texas electricity providers. In a December 2025 response, the company acknowledged this limitation and confirmed they are actively working on a solution that will allow customers to manage AutoPay entirely online. We will continue monitoring this situation and update the review as improvements are implemented.
  5. Payment convenience fees: A 2.5% convenience fee applies to most credit card and bank payments. While AutoPay is excluded from this fee, the difficulty of setting up AutoPay makes this charge more impactful than it would be with other providers.
  6. Low recent PUCT score: Despite improving Google reviews, True Power has recently received a low PUCT complaint score (1 out of 5). This indicates a higher number of formal complaints relative to competitors.

True Power Plans & Current Rates (Apr 2026)

Most of Tue Power’s plans use straightforward fixed-rate pricing. Plans such as Simply True on its website and True Value on Power to Choose offer stable rates across multiple contract terms, with additional fixed-rate options available in 100% renewable energy plans.

Note: CEF selects plans based on value to the customer. For this review, we aim to avoid redundancy and shorter-term plans. we also generally exclude complex seasonal plans that usually offer poor value, high-rate fixed plans, and high-rate bill credit plans. For a complete list of available plans and terms, always check the provider's website. We display the latest update date for each plan, showing when the EFL and its information were collected. CEF verifies rates twice per week. Always check the provider’s website for the most current EFL and rates.

Transparency Review in Detail

3.0 /5.0

Transparency

Ranked #21 of 42 companies

True Power receives a mid-range transparency score of 3 out of 5 because the best fixed-rate offers from this company are typically found on the Power to Choose state marketplace rather than on their own website, which makes it harder for customers to quickly identify the best available deals.

Customer Service Review in Detail

1.0 /5.0

PUCT complaint record

Ranked #31 of 42 companies

In this section we focus on the company’s customer service, using the official complaint data from the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT).

1. PUCT scorecard rating. This score shows how this provider compares to other Texas electricity companies based on the number of customer complaints the PUCT receives about them.

2. What the PUCT scorecard means. The PUCT publishes a scorecard that rates Retail Electric Providers based on their complaint history. It compares a company's market share to its share of complaints filed with the state. Companies that resolve issues before customers feel the need to contact the PUCT receive higher ratings (5 Power Circles), while companies that frequently force customers to escalate issues receive lower ratings.

If a company does not have a PUCT rating (or we show “No rating”), it usually means there is not enough historical data for the PUCT to calculate a score. This typically happens when a company is new to the market or has a customer base too small to be statistically compared to larger providers.

Summary of Real Customer Reviews

At Clear Energy Facts we encourage people to leave reviews on platforms where everyone can read them and companies can respond publicly. From all the options available, we’ve found that Google tends to have some of the most consistent review practices and is a widely trusted source for real customer feedback.

The analysis below is based primarily on Google reviews from roughly the last 12 months, so the information reflects recent customer experiences rather than very old history.

Customers report that customer service representatives are helpful, professional, polite, and efficient when contacted by phone. Agents assist with setting up autopay, making payments, updating account details, and answering questions. Callers connect with a live person quickly. The initial online sign-up process is described as easy, and the company offers competitive rates.
While customer service representatives are praised as helpful and professional for phone-based assistance with tasks like setting up autopay, customers also report a lack of online self-service capabilities, uncommunicated contract transfers to another provider, and billing issues.
